Selecting A Complementary Bag For Your Womanly Build

Posted under Accessories by Joyce on March 23rd, 2008 10:34 am

Finicky or selective traits are great to have, ladies, especially if you’re shopping for new additions to an already fine-tuned and maintained wardrobe. But, should scrutiny apply for us women when shopping and buying for a new handbag? The answer quite simply is yes. As a most overlooked shopping strategy, deciding on a specific handbag that proves complementary to one’s physical frame is unquestionably quintessential to looking fabulous.

Maintaining Proportional Fashion Sensibility

Even more important than looking your best, is a less-noted fashion scheme of maintaining balance, as being proportionate is utterly crucial. Proportionate here implies the ratio of your frame and/or build to the specifications of your handbag. The goal here is to aesthetically please fashion eyes by displaying yourself as one with well-planned symmetric fashion, rather than disproportionate, asymmetrical style. Achieving this level of outfit to handbag balance isn’t too out of reach.

Shape It Up

Selecting the shape of your new handbag is dire, especially in keeping with maintaining complementary handbag to body-type quotients. When choosing the shape of a handbag keep opposites in mind. Opposite in the sense that you want a handbag unlike your physique. For example, if you are a tall and slim women, go out of your way to pinpoint a more rounded or curved style bag; a hobo bag would be perfect in this case. Contrastingly, if you’re rather short and curvy, opt for a more sleek and elongated or even a tall and rectangularly shaped handbag, comparable to a standard ‘clutch.’

A general rule of thumb is to play off opposites when selecting a handbag, solely based off your figure. This is not to say that you will be stuck to a specific and rather run-on-the-mill style though, ladies. Remember, you can avoid carrying around a hard lunch pail, of sorts, just by being creative. Opt for softer, yet still rectangular or square shaped handbags, but ones with more sophisticated or creatively tailored fabrics.

Some popularly used and diversely shaped handbags include the following: a tote, duffel, hobo bag, field bag, satchel, baguette, clutch, messenger, cigar box or pouch.

Size Yourself Up

Now, while handbag shape should contrast your womanly build to gain complimentary appeal, the actual size of your handbag must be proportionate to your true-to-life frame. To accomplish matching handbag to frame proportions, consider utilizing an architectural tool, something called ’scale.’

The key here is to in a sense ‘build’ or ‘construct’ your handbag and physique through means of taking into account proper scale. Consider the following scenarios. A rather tall woman with significantly larger sized heels would look ridiculous toting a tiny, pouch type bag around town. Similarly, if a Ms. Size Nothing were to lug a duffel sized bag while on city sidewalks, you’d probably question what she was doing, both fashionably and criminally.

Also, consider a shoulder bags length when meeting proportional requirements; wherever the bottom of the bag falls in terms of body-positioning, that point will be accentuated. For example, have a bag end where your hips are and eyes will be drawn to your hip region, which isn’t a bad option since most women toting a bag mid-torso look stunning due to waist flattery.

By considering the above not only will you be able to soften your figure with just the right sized and shaped handbag, but you’ll also turn a few heads. So, what are you waiting for, ladies? Take the above fashion tips, plan by them and take them into action. You’ll magically ’shed’ a few pounds, primp your fashion sense and be able to strut your new handbag-trotting, yet proportional self out on the town with increased confidence.

What Every Woman Should Know About Fashion

Posted under Fashion Style, Fashion Tips by Joyce on September 30th, 2007 12:11 pm

By Sintilia Miecevole

If you are the average woman, knowing all the ins and outs of
fashion is not something you have time to learn and research.
With our busy lives, we just buy what we think will look nice
and is affordable. However, there are some simple rules you can
follow to keep yourself “In Fashion”, so to speak. These rules
are:

1. Don’t try to update your whole wardrobe at once! It’s always
best to try out “a look” or “new fashion” before buying out the
store. You may find that they look is great for you and then you
can add more pieces when you can. Sometimes you will find the
look is all wrong for you, so adding only a few pieces won’t
break your bank account.

2. You should never buy something you feel you are ‘too old’ to
wear! If you do buy it, you probably won’t wear it because you
won’t feel comfortable in it.

3. You shouldn’t be scared to dress outside of your normal age
group! When you are 55, that doesn’t automatically take mini
skirts out of your wardrobe. Just because you are 22, that
doesn’t mean you have to wear mini skirts, either. Go with the
fashion and style you look good in and feel comfortable wearing.

4. Black clothes almost always look more flattering, expensive
and sophisticated! Having some black “staple” clothing is always
a good fashion idea.

5. When you don’t have money, don’t go shopping! Buying cheap
clothing just because you went shopping is usually a bad
investment. It won’t be what you really wanted and you probably
won’t wear that fashion of clothing much.

6. Don’t shop based on fashion fads! When you’ve heard about a
particular fashion fad, it will probably be over! Fad fashion
never has a long lifespan, so stick with the general fashion
trends.

7. Step outside your “fashion box” for a while! If you are
normally conservative, try a miniskirt or some low cut jeans for
a change. Not comfortable with that…just add a fringed or
sequins handbag to your collection. Everyone, no matter their
fashion sense, should have fun with the fashions they wear on
occasion. Even though you will normally go back to your old
look, you will probably have a new approach to it.

8. Don’t let fashion jeopardize your professional image!
See-through, low neckline, sleazy fashions will never do wonders
for your career. Those fashions are simply inappropriate for the
9 to 5 world.

9. Fashion is only a small part of the whole “you”! If you put
a lot of time and effort into other aspects of your life, what
you wear won’t be what everyone notices about you. Don’t spend
all your time worrying about your wardrobe fashion.

10. When you look at fashion, it is all about YOU! Love a
look…look great in it…can afford the clothing…then buy it!
Fashion is just that simple!

Latest Trends In Fashion

Posted under Fashion Style, Fashion Tips by Joyce on September 30th, 2007 9:57 am

By Bridget Allen

Fashion is an incredibly fickle, but fashionistas of all ages
still love it! However, this can be a quite confusing topic, as
the must haves of last season should never see the light of day
for this season. If you find yourself wondering what’s in and
what’s out, you should be properly schooled in the latest trends
in fashion. By far, the best resource for finding the latest
fashion trends are the plethora of available fashion magazines!
Take time to flip through the fashion mags to see what’s in,
what’s out, who’s wearing what, and what you shouldn’t be
wearing at all!

In order to keep up with the latest trends in fashion, consider
building your wardrobe around staple items that are sure to be
in style regardless of the season. These basic pieces serve as
the foundation for your wardrobe, allowing you to spend a
minimal amount each season on stylish extras that may only last
a single season. By keeping the large pieces of your wardrobe
capable of shifting from season to season, you will be able to
work on any budget and stay as stylish as ever!

Invest in a couple pieces of trendy items for each season. None
of these purchases should be splurges, as you will only be able
to wear them for an extremely limited amount of time. Although
that designer bag looks like it will be around forever, it
probably won’t, so use the money to purchase something a bit
more sensible—and something else completely fun! Since many of
these items are it now, there is little chance of finding them
on sale. Consider shopping at discount stores or buying more
inexpensive items, regardless of their quality. Remember, these
items will be on the “out” list in a couple of months, so they
are not likely to wear out from excess use.

Everyone has those pictures tucked away in the bottom of the
photo box. You know the ones…with the outrageous elephant leg
bell bottoms, electric colored tops, fingerless gloves, and
even—eek—leg warmers! In order to avoid becoming a fashion
victim later on in your life as a fashionistas, consider going
easy on the fashion trends. Just because super huge hoop
earrings, splashy faux flower corsages, and cowboy boots are all
the rage this season, you by no means should wear them all at
once! Limit yourself to only one or two tremendously trendy
items per wardrobe in order to be fashion fabulous instead of a
fashion victim!

The Handbag - A logical history of handbags and purses

The Handbag - A Logical history of how the Handbag and Purse Evolved into a Statement of Fashion.

Have you ever thought about the origin of the handbag and purse? Handbags are now an essential part of most women’s wardrobe and like shoes they command the high ground in terms of defining your look. Walk into a room with a Fendi or Chanel under your arm and you will be noticed no matter what else you are wearing. So where did it all begin and what is the origin of the handbag?

The Logical Origin of the Handbag

Pouches or bags are depicted in Egyptian hieroglyphs and there are many references to pouches throughout early history. But it really is common sense that there must have always been some sort of bag our pouch for us to carry our essential possessions in. We have only ever had a maximum of two hands and you can bet that we learnt very early on that if your hands are full you can’t do anything else like for example fight, hunt, farm or climb. So I think it goes without saying that ‘man’ has evolved with a bag on ‘his’ shoulder. So, whilst we are making bold assumptions lets assume that the only thing holding back the evolution of the bag was the available materials and methods of manufacture. If our predecessors had the where-with-all to make garments to keep themselves warm and protected they would have soon realised that if you take a small square of animal skin, put your stuff in it and tie the corners together you can now look after your valuables whilst on the move. They wouldn’t have called it a Hobo until the 1890’s!

OK, so having established that the handbag was limited by the available materials and methods of manufacture it is probably safe to conclude that the early pouches were lacking in functionality and other aspects (no not the available range of colours). So, continuing this downhill slide of assumptions. Someone is bound to have made their bag in a way that was better than the others. So this bag would have been a sought after item. Ah now we are getting close. So “I will make you handbag but you have to pay me in return” and it goes without saying that the best bags will command the highest price (human nature). But it will also be essential that those who have the best can be seen to have the best so that we all know who is on the top of the tree (human nature). So I want my bag to look different from theirs because I want them to know I have the best. So there are going to be are those who have it and those who want it because the others have it. Ah Fashion I think!

Fashion YES but still with a complete sensibility and practicality. During 14th, 15th,16th and 17th centuries clothing and handbags or purses were driven by a tangible need but limited by the development of materials and manufacture techniques. The quality of fabrics and leather improved and it goes again without saying that the rich had the best but importantly everyone else had to have something and therefore they either bought it or made it. The big change came in the 18th century when women’s clothing became far more delicate and removed the copious undergarments that had been used for so many years. This dropping of the underclothing, so to speak, also reduced the places where one could easily hide your pouch of essentials. A separate bag was required and it then became fashionable for ladies to carry a handbag which obviously had to match with the outfit! So the demand for coordinated handbags was created (but they weren’t called handbags until the early 1900’s). This move to a separate bag was a huge catalyst in fashion driven designer handbags.
