Plus Size Party Dress

Tis the Season to celebrate! And this means office parties,
family get togethers, cocktail parties and formal affairs. This
also means you need a new dress!

Like every woman, I love a reason to buy a pretty new dress.
Let’s face it, it’s fun to put on a new dress that is sexy and
flattering. Who doesn’t like to receive admiring glances and
warm compliments. But if you are a full figured woman, finding
the right dress can be a chore.

Local department stores really don’t carry much of a selection
for the more voluptuous woman. And sometimes the style are
really not all that flattering. Luckily, it has become much
easier to shop for plus size clothing online at the specialty
boutiques that know what the curvy woman is looking for.

The key to looking great is in the fit of the dress. Obviously
a dress that is too tight will only enhance any extra bumps or
bulges that can be very unflattering. You also don’t want a
dress that is so big. The perfect dress will gently hug your
curves and flatter your assets. The best silhouette for a full
figured woman is the A- Line style. A-line style lengthens the
whole body without drawing attention to your waistline. The
empire waist is another good choice. The empire is narrowest
just below the bust and conceals your waist and hips. Also, deep
V necks and scoop necks flatter curvy figures and always look
best on full figured women.

Shopping online is fun, easy and very practical. You can browse
for exactly what you want, get the best prices and your new
dress will be delivered right to your door! For me it is the
only way to shop. And don’t forget the accessories. A pretty
pair of shoes will complete the outfit.

Plus Size Formal Wear

Posted under Plus Size by Joyce on December 31st, 2008 9:54 am

By Rich Rojas

Shopping for plus size formal wear has become a whole lot
easier with the emergence of on-line plus size clothing
retailers. Gone are the days of rummaging through the paltry
selection of uninspired plus size formal wear in the back
corners of major department stores.

With a bit of preparation and some knowledge of where to look
for plus size formal dresses and gowns you can easily find
exactly what you’re looking for to make your next formal event
truly memorable.

Dressing for a formal occasion does require a small bit of
preparation. Even if you already have a few formal gowns and
dresses in your wardrobe, you still must match your attire to
the occasion. You also need to have a feel for what type of plus
size formal wear looks good on you.

The following pointers will get you well on your way to looking
absolutely stunning!

*What kind of formal event? — Formal events can be divided
into 2 basics types: black tie formal affairs and cocktail
parties. This can usually be easily determined from the
invitation. If the attire is specified as “black tie”, then it’s
clear. The other clue is if gentlemen are expected to wear
tuxedos.

Receptions and a night at the opera are usually considered
black tie affairs, whereas, holiday parties and business socials
are more typically cocktail party events.

Gowns and longer formal dresses are most appropriate for black
tie events. Think royalty. Ask what a princess would wear. A
cocktail party is a little more informal and a great opportunity
to show off your style and maybe even some shapely curves with a
plus size little black dress.

*Determine your body shape — if you don’t already know your
general body shape then be sure to read a good article on
determining plus size body shapes. Armed with this knowledge you
can then match a plus size formal dress to your specific shape.
Many on-line plus size clothing retailers allow you to shop by
body shape.

*Dress for both style and comfort — plus formal gowns and
dresses come in all sorts of materials from satin to matte
jersey and most all have a touch of Spandex for an extra bit of
comfort. Elegant details such as sequins and semi-precious
stones add a very nice finishing touch.

A style of plus size formal dress that’s always a winner is the
empire waist or “A-line” style. This slimming design works
brilliantly in either a long formal gown or a short plus size
little black dress.

Consider a wrap or shrug if you would like to conceal your
upper arms. A wrap adds that royal touch to a long plus size
formal gown and will also keep your shoulders warm on chilly
evenings.

*Choose your accessories and hairstyle — a great plus size
formal dress also needs the right accessories to complement it.
Carefully consider your handbag, jewelry, and shoes. The key
word is “complement”. The star is your gown; so don’t let it be
upstaged by excessive jewelry or shoes that don’t blend in.

Also be sure to get your hair done in a style that complements
the look you are trying to achieve. Wearing your hair up is a
fantastic look with a long plus size evening gown.

*Shop on-line for the best quality and selection — the number
one pointer for shopping for plus size formal wear is that some
of the best collections are only available on-line. With
extensive catalogs, detailed descriptions and size options,
combined with liberal return and exchange policies and not to
mention the privacy and convenience of shopping from the comfort
of your home, buying plus size formal wear on-line is a can’t
miss decision!

Plus Size Fashion Tips

Posted under Plus Size by Joyce on November 3rd, 2008 9:42 am

By Rich Rojas

There are certain basic guidelines every women should observe
when selecting clothing and accessories. You should first
determine your basic body type and use this as a basis for
making clothing choices. Just remember that these are general
guidelines and not hard and fast rules. You must be the final
judge of what looks best on you and also remember, that if a
piece of clothing doesn’t feel comfortable to you, then it
doesn’t matter how flattering or stylish it is!

Your first priority should be choosing clothing that is of high
quality and is offered at a reasonable price. It’s all about
value. With these points in mind, below are several guidelines
for selecting plus size clothing that will bring out the best in
your individual body type:

1. Don’t Let Clothing Hang Off Your Body

The entire point of new plus size clothing fashions today is
the wide selection of great fitting styles for plus size women.
Gone are the days of tent-like frocks and other unflattering
garments. Of course, a lot depends on your size and body type,
but you should be able to find clothing that flatters your
figure without completely draping over you. Even a loose,
flowing summer dress with short sleeves that reveals nicely
tanned arms and well-turned ankles can be both extremely
flattering and comfortable. Also consider loose tops such tunic
tops.

2. Be Careful With Skin Tight Clothing

There’s certainly no rule that says plus size women shouldn’t
wear tight clothing. It’s really a matter of comfort — even in
petite sizes, skintight clothing can be uncomfortable. Spandex
is a remarkable fabric and it is found in a lot of plus size
clothing. A little give to a garment is a great thing.
Ultimately it’s up to you if you’re comfortable going to the gym
in Spandex tights or out to a club in a cat suit.

3. Consider High Waisted Dresses

A dress with a high waistline, sometimes referred to as an
“empire waist”, can greatly flatter your figure by making your
waist appear much smaller. A wide range of dress styles from
casual to formal are offered with empire waist lines. Decorative
bodices and stripes below the bust line further accentuate the
impression of a small waistline. They should be a part of every
plus size women’s wardrobe.

4. Be Careful With Swim Skirts

There are lots of great swimsuits to choose from in plus sizes.
A common style in plus size swim wear is the swim skirt and swim
dress. The swim skirt can draw attention away from your waist
and rear, but this style also harkens back to swim fashions from
the 1920s. Often times a slimming one-piece suit can work very
well depending on your size and body type. Where swim skirts can
be effective is in 2-piece suits or tankinis.

5. Consider Wraps

If your upper arms are not as firm as you’d like you may wish
to consider wearing cover-ups. Wraps and cover-ups are also a
great way for adding a touch of elegance to formal wear and
gowns and will also provide warmth to your shoulders on cool
evenings. Remember that long sleeves can be very sexy in plus
sizes!

By keeping this short list of plus size fashion tips in mind
you can put together an amazing wardrobe for all seasons and
occasions.
