So many times we see celebrities wearing certain articles of
clothing and accessory items that we decide we just have to have
them. But the bigger question is why do we care? Is it that the
celebrity in all of us just need some validation to our current
wadrobe or style? Or does it make sense for us to follow new
trends to keep our look fresh and updated?
Validating Our Wadrobe
As women, we are constantly being judged on our appearance,
clothes, hair, and make-up. It’s been said that women can judge
a person in three seconds. That’s a pretty quick assessment of
someone, especially other women. When we see celebrities wearing
something that is pleasing to our eyes, we want to duplicate
that look because we immediately decided that we like it. If we
do not like the trend, or fashion accessory, we will not
duplicate the look because it is of no interest to us.
Fresh Looks
A lot of times we look to magazines and the celebrity world to
see what the latest styles and trends are going to be so that
our wadrobe won’t get stale. It’s interesting to see how many
times styles and trends will come from New York or California,
and then sweep across the country over several months. By the
time most of us catch up to the trend, a new trend has emerged
and the process starts all over again. This is not necessarily
bad, because it keeps all of us on our toes to keep an updated
look.
Those Who Don’t Care
Some women have their own style and fashion cents who really
don’t care what celebrities or anyone else is wearing. These
women tend to stand out and dress differently that the majority
and they are happy with their decision to dress and accessorize
according to their own tastes.
The great thing about fashion trends is that we can adopt the
ones we like and enjoy, while discarding the ones we don’t like
and don’t choose to follow.
The fun thing about trends is that we can see something in a
magazine and laugh about it, and then we can be wearing it the
next week. If we keep a sense of humor about fashion and trends,
we can enjoy all aspects of it, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Designer clothing has been around for decades and it is likely
that we will see further developments in the future in terms of
designer clothing.
The fashion industry is constantly changing, and with even the
current trends at the moment changing, it is hard to predict
exactly what we may see in the future. There are many directions
that the current trend could take over the coming weeks, and
then after that it will break off into further directions. What
we do know is that the shape of the fashion industry is in the
hands of those who choose new fashions. Fashion designers are
always looking for new ways to improve and expand the current
trends and designs, and as a result we are starting to see a
huge range of ideas entering the field.
If we look at the past, fashion did not used to be a huge
factor in our everyday lives, we did not see clothes as
something to show off, there was simply a fine line between the
rich and the poor. Over the years it changed and it developed
and fashion started to become a significant factor when it came
to clothing and accessories. The sixties was a notable decade
for fashion; with so much going on it showed promise for the
future of fashion. Of course, there were good years, and there
were bad years, but they were the essential building blocks to
what we see today.
But what can we expect in the future? There are many possible
outcomes that we may see. There are already many fashion trends
in the space of a year, just imagine if the amount of fashion
trends were to increase. This would mean that it would be
changing faster than it already is, this would mean that a lot
more profit would be made for fashion designers, however, this
could be overruled considering the overall choice that there
currently is. Do not forget that the future could hold many new
potential fashion designers also, which means that for the
customers there could me much more choice in terms of brand.
This could in fact cause a drop in prices across competitors for
the sake of more sales and profits. Unfortunately the fashion
industry does seem to be very profit focused and this could
develop into a problem if we do not act. Prices could soar and
many of us could be non-the wiser and wasting away our money on
fashions that may not last even a month. There are many
potential high points and many potential low points, but as of
yet we can only speculate.
Overall the fashion industry is in store for many changes in
the future to come, the sheer rate of change in this industry
just shows how different it could be in the years to come. We
could see a huge increase in fashion trends in the space of a
year. There are many possible outcomes based on the many
directions the fashion industry is taking, but as of now we can
only speculate, as only time will tell.

If you are the average woman, knowing all the ins and outs of
fashion is not something you have time to learn and research.
With our busy lives, we just buy what we think will look nice
and is affordable. However, there are some simple rules you can
follow to keep yourself “In Fashion”, so to speak. These rules
are:
1. Don’t try to update your whole wardrobe at once! It’s always
best to try out “a look” or “new fashion” before buying out the
store. You may find that they look is great for you and then you
can add more pieces when you can. Sometimes you will find the
look is all wrong for you, so adding only a few pieces won’t
break your bank account.
2. You should never buy something you feel you are ‘too old’ to
wear! If you do buy it, you probably won’t wear it because you
won’t feel comfortable in it.
3. You shouldn’t be scared to dress outside of your normal age
group! When you are 55, that doesn’t automatically take mini
skirts out of your wardrobe. Just because you are 22, that
doesn’t mean you have to wear mini skirts, either. Go with the
fashion and style you look good in and feel comfortable wearing.
4. Black clothes almost always look more flattering, expensive
and sophisticated! Having some black “staple” clothing is always
a good fashion idea.
5. When you don’t have money, don’t go shopping! Buying cheap
clothing just because you went shopping is usually a bad
investment. It won’t be what you really wanted and you probably
won’t wear that fashion of clothing much.
6. Don’t shop based on fashion fads! When you’ve heard about a
particular fashion fad, it will probably be over! Fad fashion
never has a long lifespan, so stick with the general fashion
trends.
7. Step outside your “fashion box” for a while! If you are
normally conservative, try a miniskirt or some low cut jeans for
a change. Not comfortable with that…just add a fringed or
sequins handbag to your collection. Everyone, no matter their
fashion sense, should have fun with the fashions they wear on
occasion. Even though you will normally go back to your old
look, you will probably have a new approach to it.
8. Don’t let fashion jeopardize your professional image!
See-through, low neckline, sleazy fashions will never do wonders
for your career. Those fashions are simply inappropriate for the
9 to 5 world.
9. Fashion is only a small part of the whole “you”! If you put
a lot of time and effort into other aspects of your life, what
you wear won’t be what everyone notices about you. Don’t spend
all your time worrying about your wardrobe fashion.
10. When you look at fashion, it is all about YOU! Love a
look…look great in it…can afford the clothing…then buy it!
Fashion is just that simple!

In fashion design, employers seek individuals with a 2-year or 4-year degree who are knowledgeable about textiles, fabrics, ornamentation, and fashion trends. Designers must have a strong sense of the esthetic—an eye for color and detail, a sense of balance and proportion, and an appreciation for beauty. Fashion designers also need excellent communication and problem-solving skills. Despite the advancement of computer-aided design, sketching ability remains an important advantage in fashion design. A good portfolio—a collection of examples of a person’s best work—often is the deciding factor in getting a job.
Bachelor’s of fine arts and associate degree programs in fashion design are offered at many colleges, universities, and private art and design schools. Some fashion designers also combine a fashion design degree with a business, marketing, or fashion merchandising degree, especially those who want to run their own business or retail store. Basic coursework includes color, textiles, sewing and tailoring, pattern making, fashion history, CAD, and design of different types of clothing such as menswear or footwear. Coursework in human anatomy, mathematics, and psychology also is useful.
The National Association of Schools of Art and Design accredits approximately 250 postsecondary institutions with programs in art and design. Most of these schools award degrees in fashion design. Many schools do not allow formal entry into a program until a student has successfully completed basic art and design courses. Applicants usually have to submit sketches and other examples of their artistic ability.
In addition to creativity and sketching ability, fashion designers also need to have sewing and pattern making skills, even if they do not perform these tasks themselves. Designers need to be able to understand these skills so they can give proper instructions as to how the garment should be constructed. Fashion designers also need strong sales and presentation skills in order to persuade clients to purchase their designs. Good teamwork and communication skills also are necessary because of the increasingly international nature of the business that requires constant contact with suppliers, manufacturers, and buyers around the world.
Aspiring fashion designers can learn these necessary skills through internships with design or manufacturing firms. Some designers also gain valuable experience working in retail stores, as personal stylists, or as custom tailors. Such experience can help designers gain sales and marketing skills while learning what styles and fabrics look good on different people. Designers also can gain exposure to potential employers by entering their designs in student or amateur contests. Because of the global nature of the fashion industry, experience in one of the international fashion centers, such as Milan or Paris, can be useful.
Beginning fashion designers usually start out as pattern makers or sketching assistants for more experienced designers before they can advance to higher level positions. Experienced designers may advance to chief designer, design department head, or other supervisory position. Some designers may start their own design company, or sell their designs in their own retail stores. A few of the most successful designers can work for high-fashion design houses that offer personalized design services to wealthy clients.
