Fashion – With It Or Against It

Fashion is a very wide concept. Everybody knows that the haute
couture is an enormous industry, the depository of fantasy and
ideas. It is like a big anthill in which every labourer has
her/is individual task to perform in order to put the designer’s
creative ideas into practice. Traditionally, all this havoc ends
up in the spotlight of a podium, the length of which is
gracefully walked up and down by an array of selected models. At
the end of the fashion show we applaud the designer who, more
than anyone else, belongs to the circle of the selected few. Not
everyone can join in, although the selection process is not
always based on talent. This flashy glamorous world is
accessible to a certain category of women. Not belonging to this
category does not necessarily mean that we cannot and should not
be elegant, charming and stylish!

Fashion, just like nature, cynically changes – one style takes
over another and trends that have not caught up, sink into
oblivion. People of fashion claim that fashion just like
history, repeats itself. However, every time it does repeat
itself, it brings along something new. This is the world in
which we all not only wish, but also have to find our own place.
Therefore, fashion gives us a choice and we make our pick.

Those who used to make clothes for dolls when they were little
girls will quickly find their way in the labyrinths of fashion
as they know what being creative about what we wear is. It is
important to use high quality, natural materials. If that is
beyond our price range, we can still look for quality clothes
made of linen, silk and mohair. This is how you’ll develop a
dressing culture of your own. An original piece of clothing
together with a stylish handbag and quality shoes will suit you
well no matter your height, weight and age. The key is to make
sure that your clothes are comfortable and reflect your
personality, which proves once again that a good item will make
anyone look good.

Fashion Trends–Why Do We Care About Them?

Posted under Fashion Style, Fashion Tips by Joyce on October 26th, 2008 10:02 am

By Rene Fletcher

So many times we see celebrities wearing certain articles of
clothing and accessory items that we decide we just have to have
them. But the bigger question is why do we care? Is it that the
celebrity in all of us just need some validation to our current
wadrobe or style? Or does it make sense for us to follow new
trends to keep our look fresh and updated?

Validating Our Wadrobe

As women, we are constantly being judged on our appearance,
clothes, hair, and make-up. It’s been said that women can judge
a person in three seconds. That’s a pretty quick assessment of
someone, especially other women. When we see celebrities wearing
something that is pleasing to our eyes, we want to duplicate
that look because we immediately decided that we like it. If we
do not like the trend, or fashion accessory, we will not
duplicate the look because it is of no interest to us.

Fresh Looks

A lot of times we look to magazines and the celebrity world to
see what the latest styles and trends are going to be so that
our wadrobe won’t get stale. It’s interesting to see how many
times styles and trends will come from New York or California,
and then sweep across the country over several months. By the
time most of us catch up to the trend, a new trend has emerged
and the process starts all over again. This is not necessarily
bad, because it keeps all of us on our toes to keep an updated
look.

Those Who Don’t Care

Some women have their own style and fashion cents who really
don’t care what celebrities or anyone else is wearing. These
women tend to stand out and dress differently that the majority
and they are happy with their decision to dress and accessorize
according to their own tastes.

The great thing about fashion trends is that we can adopt the
ones we like and enjoy, while discarding the ones we don’t like
and don’t choose to follow.

The fun thing about trends is that we can see something in a
magazine and laugh about it, and then we can be wearing it the
next week. If we keep a sense of humor about fashion and trends,
we can enjoy all aspects of it, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

The Politics Of Fashion

Posted under Fashion Style, Fashion Tips by Joyce on September 30th, 2008 9:23 am

By Kingston Amadan

Everyone knows that clothes make the man. From the executive
suits that litter Wall Street like the remnants of a ticker-tape
parade to the coveralls and work boots worn by construction
workers and mechanics, clothes tell the story of who we are and
where we’re going. Even when the workday is done, what we choose
to wear on our own time is still a reflection of our
personalities. From the sweat-suit to the wet-suit, our clothes
are meant to be not only functional, but forthcoming as well.
Clothes tell others what we like, and often, how we spend our
time. Sports franchise logos are constantly on display on Main
Street America. T-shirts with well known television, film and
music icons can be seen almost anywhere. Clothes have something
to say, and people are beginning to realize that the
responsibility of being a walking billboard requires us to
choose wisely.

Now, more than ever, politics are entering the realm of
fashion. Blatantly political phrases and slogans are becoming
more prevalent on the backs of the public than the bumpers of
cars. There are even items of clothing that advertise specific
candidates or political parties and were actually purchased by
someone, somewhere (not obtained as a door prize at a party
fundraiser). But what options exist for those who like a little
subtlety with their agenda? Enter the merger of socially
conscious art and clothing. Less politically charged and
infinitely more fashionable, boutique clothiers have created
garments that are the realization of the finite balance between
the message and the medium. Using art as the instrument of
exchange and clothing as the canvas, these pioneers of
significancy are providing people with a method of expressing
themselves both in figure and in fact. What better way for
entrepreneurs to meet the demands of a public that is focused on
reflecting a belief in both style and substance.
