A lot of student who graduated from fashion design school
somehow has expectation of having their own fashion design
business. Some of them may want to be a designer and just want
to have own little studio then taking the job from outside, mean
while some other want to join reputable fashion design schools
or institutes or even work for the company which can pay highest
income. However, the fashion business today has more variety of
options. As the fashion business actually can be started from
very small scale like family business where one or two family
member could set up by using only little budget, to the very
large fashion items manufacturers.

There are so many business owners who are now are very
successful and are the owner of very famous fashion design
companies, and these people started their business only from
home business. However, it is fairly to say that at present
time, there will be only a little chance for the home business
to become success without having huge amount of money.
Therefore, many of graduates who finish from good fashion school
and they also paid the expensive tuition fee may not want to go
back to start his/her own home business for just to get a little
of money.

Even though the key of success seem to be the money that
designer have to invest on the business, but in fact, the most
important thing that is really keys of the success is the idea
of the design. No matter the size of the business that you have
just started, it is very important for you that you have to find
the chance to get your design out to the public and if your
design are acceptable by the market, then you will have more
work as well as possibility to expand your business.

There are so many for example of the people who just started
from very small home business but finally gain reputation from
their design and it means that you can gain reputation by doing
in the same way too!. The most effective way to present your
design items to the word it the internet. If we were in ten
years back from now, I would say that there is very least chance
for small business to compete with giant companies because there
are very limited channel for small business to present products
to public.

But now we are in internet age, where everything is possible
and the competitive advantage is no longer limited by the size
of the business at all. There are places on the internet to
present your work and also not just to present and you can sell
them on line as well. There are also many of online auction site
that you can capture the market and sell your products. It is
the place where any one who wants to sell not only fashion item
goes and present the design to people all over the world. Now it
is you decision if you are one of the people who want to start
up your fashion design career and want to gain competitive
advantage of your design.

Work Experience In Fashion – How To Get A Great Opportunity In Fashion Work

Posted under Designers, Fashion Marketing by Joyce on February 6th, 2008 7:02 am

By Natasha Zurnamer

Work experience in fashion can be one of the most challenging
positions to find. It’s a simple equation of supply and demand
and unfortunately there are often not enough opportunities to go
around. Imagine boosting your chances? Here is my advice!

Most fashion businesses (head office) have a work experience
program for students either in the Senior School years or for
fashion students. Work experience tends to be either in a one
week or sequence of days or a day a week for a number of months.

Either way you need to consider that although the company is
getting an ‘extra pair of hands’ for no financial outlay it can
be a disruption to the business. This is why you may often find
fashion businesses are negative when you pluck the courage to
make the call.

Let’s give you a better opportunity for success… Plan your work
experience and never leave it to the last minute to scout for
opportunities. Many companies have a work experience booking
system with bookings required at least a few months before you
will commence. Some very popular brands book the whole year out
from approaches made in January!

When you call you should ask for the human resources
department. If the company doesn’t have one; then ask to speak
to the person in charge of recruitment. If your call can’t be
put through ask confidently for the name and email address of
the person in charge of recruitment. Some companies may not
disclose email addresses so send a letter.

You can expect, at head office level to secure an opportunity
in design, production, buying, administration or purchasing.
Some companies have warehouse work experience – I would be a
little wary of warehouse work experience if you have not chosen
a career in this department.

Now, and most importantly, you need to have prepared some
information before you make the call or send the letter. You
are asking for the company to give you an insight into their
business to assist you with your career. They want to know that
even though it is unpaid work experience that they are offering
the role to someone sharp and bright! In your letter or
conversation you need to be clear about your availability and
flexible about the area in the business that you would like to
work in. For example the most popular division for work
experience is undoubtedly design. Don’t pin your hopes on work
experience in the design division. It will boost your knowledge
and expand your understanding if you work in other departments.
The insight you will gain by understanding the intricacy of
departments who lead into design will make you better in the
design department in the long run. Employers love it when work
experience prospects are keen but demonstrate flexibility.

Don’t be disheartened if you feel you are hitting a brick wall.

There are many ways to make your self known and sometimes it
may take a few different communication methods to get through.
Always maintain a positive outlook on the phone even if you
haven’t managed to pass home base (the receptionist). It is my
strong belief that you can build a rapport with just about
anyone and the receptionist may just put in a good word for you
if you strike a good empathy with them.

Okay, back to the letter. Make it short and to the point.
Include the following information; availability, preferred
department (but be flexible), your present studies and the
institution and your ultimate career goals (if you have
decided!). And one other thing; ensure the contact details that
you provide are your best contact avenues. When a company can’t
contact you – they will simply go to the next person. Even if
you leave the number of a parent or friend as an alternative and
advise them to expect a call you have a better chance of
securing a role. For work experience students who are still at
school you will need to arrange an insurance certificate or
guardian authority so be prepared when it is asked for.

Once you have gained your work experience opportunity you need
to follow some golden rules! Be reliable, always dress
appropriately to the company’s dress code and absorb like a
sponge! It is my strong belief that making an amazing
impression in work experience can lead to incredible
opportunities once you have graduated. Oh and one last thing,
always write a letter of thanks. It is amazing how much a thank
you creates a positive anchor in people’s minds. Make a great
impression and good luck!

Fashion Marketing Schools In California: Is The World Of Fashion
Marketing In The Golden State Right For You?
By Jessica Bradbury

Many people dream of attending fashion marketing schools. In
California there are many schools that an aspiring fashion
designer or fashion entrepreneur can choose to attend to learn
their stuff, if they know where to start looking and if their
head is in the right place. Many people think that anybody can
afford to go to and get into any of the fashion marketing
schools in California, but that is not true.

In essence, the fashion industry is a great deal like the art
industry, and art students need to do more than breathe and have
a heartbeat to get into art school, don’t they? Even so, if
anybody could get into fashion marketing schools, there would be
a good many failures and drop-outs as the industry is simply not
for everyone.

How to Know If California is Right for You

It is not just fashion marketing schools that must be
considered but also whether or not the location is right.
California is certainly a beautiful state, but it is also jammed
full of people, cars, and smog; that paints a pretty nasty
picture but anybody who has ever been to California should know
that things are quite to the contrary.

It is a beautiful state with a booming economy in the fashion
niche, and it is where many artists and designers actually get
their start. If you can’t deal with a little bit of pollution,
some rather strange people, and a whole lot of noise and
business then most of the fashion marketing schools in
California are probably not going to be the best idea for you.

Choosing the Right Fashion Schools in California

If you decide that California is the type of environment that
you would do well in, it is just a matter of deciding on the
right fashion marketing schools. In California many of the art
institutes have fashion divisions and fashion majors that people
can get marketing degrees in, but finding the right one for you
is the most important thing. If you prefer to learn in a more
intimate environment and get individualized attention, then
perhaps a private art schools if for you.

Some of the best fashion marketing schools in California are
public colleges that don’t have as stringent of an admissions
process as the private ones do, yet they still put out
graduates. See which colleges graduate the most students and the
average cost of attendance as well as other factors that matter
to you in selecting a school.

Choosing the right fashion marketing schools is not always the
easiest thing to do. Deciding to attend fashion marketing
schools in California is a big step, and if you want to be
prepared for it you can start now. Do your research and find out
which schools best suit your needs and start submitting your
application materials. If you can get all of your ducks in a
row, this can be one of the biggest steps in your life.

I hope you find this article informative as to decide if
choosing this type of career path in the state of California is
right for you.

Fears Behind False Fashion

Posted under Fashion Marketing by Joyce on October 9th, 2007 8:56 am

By Kacy Carr

False Fashion is it for you? What you have to bear in mind when
keeping up with all the newest trend is, that never once were
you in the designer/s thoughts when putting his/her creation
together.

How many times have you cringed at styles knowing at the back
of your mind how hideous you would look dressed in what was
designed for the catwalk?

Top designer labels do not come cheap and can be quite
expensive leaving you broke because you want to keep up with the
Jones’s

Ever felt stupid when attired up to nines to stop the jibes
from your friends, keeping up with fashion is all well and good,
but if you are not comfortable with your appearance then do
something about it. Start by ignoring nasty remarks, true
friends do not pass judgement unless in your favour.

It makes sense to put your own fashion ideas to use and into
the bargain cost effective. Design your own label? Who knows may
be your friends will want a piece of the action. Top designers
started this way.

When out shopping; find a shop selling quality gear for half
the price of what it would cost to dress in designer gear. You
will find similar or duplicated designs to the latest craze in
most stores. Is the content of your wallet/purse holding you
back from making a purchase. Then get yourself to the local
second hand shop and pick up a bargain.

Stick with the trend by wearing the colours in fashion. Charity
shops donate to good causes, so as well as looking a million
dollars you help the starving people of the world.

Uneasy with the new boob tube where the bare fleshy stomach is
on full view, then narrow it down to a glimpse for the onlooker,
add a little lace tassels or beads.

Belts do not do down well for the pleasantly plump, okay so we
find an alternative. Gather leather strips, braid/plait them
together then hang the twisted menagerie loosely around the
waist add a little glitter to spice it up, this will not only
look effective but complement your size.

How to get away with no boots if money is tight

Buy a closed in shoe then get a matching pair of coloured
knee/ankle length socks and hey presto from a distance a pair of
boots How good is that?

What is the point of expensive designer labels when the only
person that gets to see that new outfit is you? all because the
bank balance states 0.00 where you do not get to party till your
next payday, and by then with the fashion industry as it is, the
oufit may well be past its sell by date.

False fashion is what it is. Your height, weight, skin type was
never taken into account by the designer unlike the rich stars.
How on earth can you look your best by other folks choices?
Think about it if anyone knows what will suit you? is you.
